EDEM Discrete Element Method for Heavy Equipment

Discrete Element Method (DEM) Webinar Series

DEM for Heavy Equipment Manufacturers

When designing heavy equipment such as dump trucks, excavators, harvesters, and tractors, being able to predict the behavior of bulk materials is crucial in order to optimize the design of equipment and maximize its performance and reliability. Altair® EDEM™ software, powered by the Discrete Element Method (DEM), accurately simulates and analyzes the behavior of rocks, soils, coal, ores, pellets, and more, and provides engineers with crucial insight into how those materials will interact with their equipment during a range of operation and process conditions.

In this webinar series, we will show how EDEM can be used to optimize equipment design and performance in the mining, construction, and agriculture industries.

Bulk Material Simulation for Construction & Mining Heavy Equipment

Bulk Material Simulation for Construction

In this webinar, learn more about EDEM software and how it can be used for the design, performance testing, and optimization of construction and mining heavy equipment.

EDEM software, powered by the Discrete Element Method (DEM), accurately simulates the behavior of rocks, soils, ores and gravel, etc. It provides engineers with crucial engineering insight into how materials will interact with their equipment during a range of operating conditions and enable them to use realistic loads in Finite Element Analysis and Multi-body Dynamics simulations for optimal designs.

Bulk Material and Multi-body Dynamics Simulation for Heavy Equipment

EDEM Example

Discover Altair MotionSolve and how it can be leveraged along with Altair EDEM for high fidelity heavy equipment simulations.  Altair MotionSolve allows an engineer to analyze the dynamic response of a mechanical system while interacting with bulk material in order to optimize performance, identify stress “hotspots” for fatigue life prediction, and size components such as motors and hydraulic cylinders.

We will take a look at heavy equipment applications while discussing these topics and demonstrating the connectivity between both modeling environments – Altair MotionView/MotionSolve and Altair EDEM.  We will also look into how these tools can easily be coupled with Altair Activate for additional subsystems such as hydraulics and controls for a truly “system of systems” analysis.

Bulk Material Simulation for Agricultural Heavy Equipment

EDEM Tillage Render

Tractors, combines and forage harvesters are all designed to work with a range of granular materials such as crops, seeds and soils. These materials can impact the performance of the machine and its durability. EDEM software, powered by the Discrete Element Method (DEM), accurately simulates the behavior of grains, seeds, crops and soils and provides engineers with crucial insight into how materials will interact with a piece of equipment during a range of operation and process conditions. Join us to learn more about EDEM software and how it can be used for the design, performance testing, and optimization of agricultural machinery.
