Read before you submit
Contest Rules
- Students must improve a robotics or mechatronics application of their choice showing a marked improvement in weight, strength, structural integrity, efficiency, sustainability, or other optimized features.
- Students must use Inspire, AI Studio, PSIM, or another software found in Altair’s suite of tools.
- Students may enter as an individual or part of a team. There is no limit to team size, but the prizes awarded are per submission not per person.
- Students may enter several entries, but each submission must be unique.
- Students/Team(s) must agree for Altair to use their models and videos in promotional materials.
- All judging is at the discretion of Altair and all decisions made by Altair are final.
- Review the Terms & Conditions before you submit.
- Students under the age of 18 who want to submit to the contest must have a parent or legal guardian read and accept the consent form for minors.
What to Submit
Optimization Video
To qualify to win one of our quarterly prizes, you must submit a URL to your submission video, hosted on a public video platform of your choice (e.g. YouTube, Vimeo, Wistia, etc.)
Your video should outline the optimization process and what you learned. Make sure also to include:

Testimonial Reel
To qualify to win any of our additional prizes, you must submit a testimonial reel-style video, answering the following questions:

What you can win
Amazing Prizes, Multiple Ways to Win*
To qualify, the submission must include all the required information stated in the "Contest Rules" and "What to Submit" sections. Students are encouraged to submit multiple substantively different entries to increase their chances of winning.
Monthly Prizes*
Starting in January 2024, Altair will award three monthly prizes of $2000, $1000, and $500 for the most exceptional student submissions from all submissions of the previous quarter. Each winner will receive their prize in their local currency.
Testimonial Reel Prizes*
During the nine months that the contest is running, Altair will award six additional prizes in the form of FIRST Robotics Team sponsorships (3 x $5000) and Altair Ambassadorships (3 x $1000). The videos will be judged based on creativity, originality, and quality. In these videos, we encourage students to have fun and make them entertaining while honestly sharing their experience working with Altair tools.
*All prize amounts are shown in USD and will be converted to the winners' local currency. Prizes will not be awarded in cash but will be provided in other non-cash alternatives (e.g. pre-paid credit cards, gift cards). For more information read the Terms & Conditions (link in the form on the right).
