Lunch & Learn: Designing Gas Turbine Thermo Fluid Systems Using GE's Flow Simulator

12:30pm - 2:30pm
Wednesday, June 19 | Phoenix Convention Center | Room  West 101 A

The Flow Simulator is an integrated flow, heat transfer, and combustion design software that enables mixed fidelity simulations to optimize turbomachinery design.

Fast and accurate mixed-fidelity (1D, 2D, and 3D) flow simulations, that can handle complex geometry and long transient missions. A flexible common platform allows different groups to perform modeling with respect to their verticals and thus be combined to create system models.

Flow Simulator has a modern graphic user interface (GUI) with the ability to overlay/integrate the 3D digital CAD with the analytical models. The GUI is geared for design where the pre/solver/and post are all embedded in a single interface. The fully integrated optimization module provides the capability to quickly explore the entire design space within 3D modeling environment. System models can be parametrized based on flow configuration, shape, dimension, and thermal characteristics to achieve an optimal cost-benefit design.

Also included is an extended library of preconfigured elements/components leveraging a large set of publicly-available experimental data for pressure drop and heat transfer characteristics. This fully extensible platform provides customers the capability to integrate their own IP and element formulations seamlessly utilizing Python scripting.

Lunch & Learn: Altair SimSolid: Simulating Large, Complex Assemblies in Minutes

12:30pm - 1:30pm
Thursday, June 20 | Phoenix Convention Center | Room  West 101 A

Altair SimSolid is a next generation, high-capacity, structural finite element solution. It uses new meshless computational methods to allow solutions of assemblies, such as turbine engines that have hundreds to thousands of parts, directly on a standard desktop computer. SimSolid eliminates geometry simplification and meshing. These are the two most time consuming, expertise extensive, and error prone tasks done in traditional FEA.

Why Altair Inspire Cast
Design for Castings
Radically new designs in combination with new materials demand designers to evaluate their designs early. Engage early with Altair Inspire Cast to simulate possible issues upfront with minimal or no training. As the process gets refined the ability to further investigate and optimize the process makes Altair Inspire Cast uniquely valuable during the entire product development cycle from early design to manufacturing.
Minimize Process Complexity
It is typical in the industry to first design a process and then simulate it. Altair Inspire Cast turns that concept overs its head by helping users evolve the process in tandem with their ideas. You can start the filling with virtualized in-gates that will guide you through areas of porosity and the right risers to compensate. Gravity, Die, High Pressure, Low Pressure, Investment and Tilt casting, all have guided templates for refinement.
Improve Quality and Profitability
State of the art, bi-phasic Finite Element formulation allows for capturing the filling and solidification process with great precision. This helps with building great quality castings with high margins.
